Basics of Gauge $10 (Or – Do I Have To?) Learn what gauge is and why it is so important. Practice measuring for gauge with class samples. We will also cover which projects can be completed without a specific gauge and which can’t. Blocking Class Blocking Class – Saturday, May 31st, 1:00 p.m. If you would like some information about the blocking process before putting your sweaters away for the season, this class is for you. I will be sharing information on properly washing your knti and crochet items as well as the why and how of blocking. Class will begin at 1 p.m. and length will vary depending on your questions. The class is Free, however you must register so I can be prepared. Chart Reading $10 Many patterns are being written in chart form and may or may not include written row-by-row instructions. We will learn the benefits of being able to read a chart, what the symbols mean and tips for following the chart as you knit. Conquering Cables $15 Cables are beautiful but they can be intimidating. What does C4B mean anyway? Learn some basic cables as we make a cabled band which can be used as the base for a hat. you will need bulky weight yarn, a cable needle and either straight or circular needles in US size 10. Pattern is included. Exploring EPS $50 This class runs for five sessions. Elizabeth Zimmermann developed a Percentage System (EPS) for creating a well-fitting sweater using your measurements, your yarn and your gauge. We will be following her pattern for the Weekend Sweater (Spun-Out 46) which is included in the class fee. You will need to bring a sweater that fits you well for measuring, your chosen yarn and needles appropriate for that yarn. There will be homework between classes. Finishing Techniques $15 You’ve taken the time to knit your project, now take the time to finish it properly. Kitchener stitch, 3-needle bind-off, pick up and knit, mattress stitch and blocking will be covered. Your homework for the class is to knit swatches so that you can work along. Swatch instructions will be given with class registration. Lace Knitting Basics $15 Lace looks impressive, and even intimidating, but you can break it down to some pretty basic skills. Learn what lace is, how to read a chart and the importance of blocking. We will work on a sampler swatch in class. You will need fingering weight yarn in a natural fiber (not superwash) and straight or circular needles in US size 6. Pattern is included. Open Stitching Every Thursday at 1:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. Free and open to all. Join us for a time of knitting, crocheting, spinning, conversation and treats. The conversation is lively, so you might want to leave your lace at home! laugh Socks – Basic Skills $25 Before you begin your first pair of socks on double point needles, there are a few things you should be familiar with. This class covers the basics of casting on, joining to knit in the round, pick up and knit, K2tog and SSK. Bamboo double point needles and worsted weight yarn are included in the class fee. Socks – The Learning Sock $25 This class covers every step of the sock-knitting process while knitting a small sample sock in worsted weight yarn. Bamboo double point needles and yarn are included in the dclass fee. You must be comfortable with the basics of knitting in the round. Socks – Turning a Heel $15 We will focus on the specifics of turning a standard top-down gusseted heel. This little bit of magic will no longer be a mystery. Homework for the class is a small tube knit with worsted weight yarn on US 6 needles. Bamboo needles and worsted weight yarn are recommended. Homework instructions will be provided with class registration. Two-Color Knitting $15 Learn two-color knitting using the stranding method while knitting a hat in the round. (The trapping method will be covered as time allows.) You will need to bring worsted weight yarn in the main color, smaller amounts of worsted weight yarn in a contrasting color, a 16-20″ circular needle and double point needles in a size to give you a gauge of 5 stitches per inch. Hat pattern is included in the class fee. You should be comfortable with knitting in the round before taking this class. Two-Color Knitting $15 We will knit a hat in the round while learning the stranding method of two-color knitting. The trapping method will be covered as time allows. You will need worsted weight yarn in a main color and smaller amounts of contrasting colors, a 16-20″ circular needle and double point needles in a size to give you a gauge of 5 stitches per inch. The hat pattern is included in the class fee. You should be comfortable knitting in the round before taking this class. Wonderful Wallaby $40 Carol Anderson’s Wonderful Wallaby is a very popular pattern, and for good reason. This knit, hooded sweater is comfortable to wear and fun to knit. The pattern booklet includes sizes from a Child’s Size 2 up to Adult XL. We will knit the smallest size to learn the pattern while still finishing by the end of class. You will need a Wonderful Wallaby pattern booklet, worsted weight yarn and needles in a size to give you a gauge of 5 stitches per inch. You should be comfortable knitting in the round before taking this clas. There will be homework between classes.
